Product Overview
Power trim relay for the Volvo Penta trim and tilt system, a 12 volt 40 amp switch that carries the pump motor current when the helm switch is pressed. It replaces Volvo Penta 1504952-1, 831725-7 and 876039-9, it also crosses to 876040-7, 1324492-6, 399158 and 854357-1, and it ships as one relay in a 150 mm x 100 mm x 40 mm box at 67 g.
The relay is the part that takes the load off the helm switch. The dash button only carries a small current; the relay closes the heavy circuit to the trim pump motor, which is why a failed relay shows up as a trim that does nothing, clicks once and stops, or works in one direction only.
This is the relay body without a wire harness. Volvo Penta used the same relay across a long list of engines and drives, and some versions were supplied with a short pigtail and some without. If the original wiring is sound, this is the part that plugs into the existing socket.
Before replacing it, check the two obvious things: the fuse and the earth. A trim that is dead in both directions is often a fuse, a rusty earth strap or a seized pump motor, and a new relay will not fix any of those. A relay that clicks but does not switch current is the failure this part solves.
Fitment covers the Volvo Penta 230, 250, 430, 431, 432, 434, 500, 501, 570, 571, 572 and 740 series, the AD31, AD41, AQAD, D41, KAD42, KAMD42, MD31, TAMD and TMD engines, and the DP, DPX and SP drives listed in the tables below.
