Rectifier Regulator Assy 68V-81960-00 for Yamaha 4-Stroke 50-115 HP Outboard
Rectifier Regulator Assy 68V-81960-00 for Yamaha 4-Stroke 50-115 HP Outboard
Product Overview
Voltage rectifier and regulator assembly for the Yamaha and Mercury four stroke outboards and the Yamaha Waverunner PWC, supplied as 1 x rectifier regulator. This is the part that turns the alternator output into a regulated charge for the battery. It replaces Yamaha 68V-81960-00 and 6D3-81960-00, it crosses to Mercury 881346T and Suzuki 32800-87L00, it covers the Yamaha 50 to 115 HP four strokes from 2000 to 2015, the Mercury 75 to 115 HP from 2000 to 2013 and the FX, GP1300R and VX Waverunners from 2002 to 2009, and one unit ships at 353 g with packaging.
The rectifier is what fails when a four stroke stops charging. The engine still runs, the battery goes flat between trips, and the fault is often found at the battery rather than at the engine.
It fails from heat. The regulator is a solid state block bolted to the engine where it gets no airflow, and the potting cracks before the electronics do. Once it is open, water gets in and the output drops or goes to a flat zero.
A failed rectifier also takes the tachometer with it on some Yamaha models, because the tacho reads off the same charging circuit. If the tacho has stopped and the battery is going flat, the rectifier is the first thing to check.
The same unit is used on the outboards and on the Waverunner because the charging system is the same. Both applications are set out below, outboards first and then the PWC models.
