Regulator Rectifier 0585001 0584476 for OMC Johnson Evinrude 40 50 60 70 HP Outboard 18-5827
Regulator Rectifier 0585001 0584476 for OMC Johnson Evinrude 40 50 60 70 HP Outboard 18-5827
Product Overview
Regulator rectifier, a direct replacement part for OMC Johnson and Evinrude 40 HP, 50 HP, 60 HP and 70 HP outboards built from 1992 onwards. It replaces Johnson and Evinrude 0585001, 0584476 and 0777676, CDI Electronics 193-4476 and Sierra 18-5827. The unit measures 107 mm long by 50 mm wide and weighs 387 g with its packaging.
This is the part that turns the stator output into charging current and holds it at battery voltage. When it fails, the motor still starts and runs, but the battery goes flat between trips, or the tachometer stops reading.
The 40 HP and 50 HP motors use two or three cylinders depending on the year, and the 60 HP and 70 HP are three cylinder motors. All four take the same regulator, which is why one part number covers the whole 40 HP to 70 HP range.
Fitment runs by model code and year. Check the code on your motor against the table before you order, because the same horsepower was sold under several model designations.

Signs The Regulator Has Failed
| What You See | What It Means | What To Do |
|---|---|---|
| Battery flat after a few trips | No charging output | Fit the new regulator |
| Tachometer stopped reading | Regulator supplies the tacho signal | Fit the new regulator |
| Battery boiled dry | Regulator passing full stator voltage | Fit the new regulator |
| Lights brighten with engine speed | No voltage control | Fit the new regulator |
| Charging fuse blows repeatedly | Shorted output stage | Fit the new regulator |
| Motor runs fine but will not charge | Rectifier diodes open | Fit the new regulator |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Read the model code and year off the motor and check the tables above |
| 2 | Disconnect the battery before touching the charging circuit |
| 3 | Unplug the stator leads and the battery lead from the old unit |
| 4 | Check the stator resistance before fitting, a bad stator kills the new regulator |
| 5 | Bolt the new regulator to clean metal so it has a good earth |
| 6 | Reconnect the stator and battery leads to the matching terminals |
| 7 | Start the motor and check battery voltage rises to about 14 volts at fast idle |
| 8 | Check the tachometer reads again and stop if the voltage keeps climbing |
