Product Overview
Serpentine alternator and power steering drive belt 3889124 for Volvo Penta 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7 litre marine engines, the ribbed belt that runs the alternator and the power steering pump off the crank. It replaces 3889124 and 3817287, and it ships in a 200 x 250 x 50 mm pack at 290 g.
It fits the 4.3GL and 4.3GXi, the 5.0GL, 5.0GXi and 5.0OSi, and the 5.7Gi and 5.7GXi models listed in the table below. These are the GM based petrol V6 and V8 engines that Volvo Penta marinised for sterndrive and inboard use, and they all run this one belt.
A serpentine belt is the single point that drives everything on the front of the engine. When it lets go there is no charging, no power steering and no cooling water circulation, and the engine overheats within minutes. These belts also crack long before they break, so checking the ribs once a season tells you when to change it.
