Product Overview
Outboard thermostat part supplied as a complete kit for Johnson and Evinrude outboards, covering 6-55 HP crossflow V4 and V6 models, 40-250 HP E-TEC models and 9.9 HP and 15 HP four-strokes from 1994 to 2001, replacing 5005440, 508626, 378065, 393659, 434841, 437414 and 377148. The same kit also covers Mercury and Mariner 7.5 HP to 250 HP models by serial range, plus Sierra 18-3543, GLM 13010 and Mallory 9-43101. Dispatched from our Australia local warehouse.
The thermostat sets the temperature the engine runs at, and both failure modes are visible on the water. Stuck open, the motor never reaches temperature, runs rich, fouls plugs and burns more fuel than it should. Stuck closed, temperature climbs within minutes, the tell-tale stays weak and the powerhead is at risk on the first long run of the season.
Test the old thermostat in a pan of hot water before ordering anything. It should open before the water boils and close again as it cools. If it stays open, or the housing shows white corrosion and a swollen seal, the whole kit goes in rather than just the thermostat.
