Thermostat Kit 68V-12411-00 60V-12411-00 18-3525 for Yamaha 115 200 225 250 300 HP Outboard 122 F 50 C
Product Overview
Thermostat kit for Yamaha outboards from 115 HP to 300 HP, opening at 122 °F (50 °C). It replaces Yamaha 68V-12411-00 and 60V-12411-00 and crosses to Sierra 18-3525. The kit is supplied complete as pictured, with the thermostat and its seals ready for the housing.
It covers the 115 HP four stroke F115 and LF115 from 2000 to 2014 and the big two stroke and HPDI V6 motors, the VZ200, VZ225, Z250, LZ250, VZ250, Z300, LZ300 and VZ300, built between 2003 and 2009. The same thermostat also fits the 115 HP motors that Yamaha built for Mercury between 2001 and 2005.
A 50 °C opening is what keeps a big outboard from running cold on the plane while still opening early enough to protect it at idle in cold water. If the motor never reaches temperature, or climbs past normal on a long run, the thermostat is usually the first part to check after the water pump.

Running Cold or Running Hot
| What You See | What It Usually Is | What To Check |
|---|---|---|
| Motor never reaches normal temperature | Thermostat stuck open | This kit, plus the temperature sender |
| Temperature climbs only at speed | Thermostat partly open, or the pump weak | Thermostat first, then the water pump |
| Overheat at idle, normal on plane | Thermostat stuck closed | This kit, then check the pressure valve |
| Temperature gauge swings quickly | Air in the cooling system | Bleed the system, then recheck |
| Warm again after a thermostat change | Housing not sealed, air drawn in | Seals and the housing faces |
| Alarm at high rpm only | Flow restriction, not the thermostat | Water pump and the intake screens |
Two Stroke HPDI and Four Stroke
| Motor Family | Thermostat Behaviour | What To Note |
|---|---|---|
| F115 four stroke | Single thermostat in the head housing | Same kit across 2000 to 2014 |
| VZ200 and VZ225 HPDI | Thermostat plus pressure relief | Check the relief valve while the housing is open |
| Z250 and VZ250 | Same housing family | Two thermostats on some 3.3 L motors, check the parts list |
| Z300 and VZ300 | Later 4.2 L V6 | Confirm the housing number before ordering two kits |
| Mercury F115 Yamaha built | Identical head to the Yamaha F115 | This kit fits directly |
| Carburetted 115 HP two stroke | Different housing | Check the number on the old thermostat |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Let the motor cool completely and disconnect the battery before opening the housing |
| 2 | Check the number on the old thermostat, 68V-12411-00 and 60V-12411-00 are the same size |
| 3 | Drain the coolant or clamp the hoses, the housing sits low on the head |
| 4 | Clean both housing faces, old gasket left behind is the usual cause of a leak |
| 5 | Fit the thermostat with the spring toward the engine |
| 6 | Fit the new seals dry, no sealant on rubber |
| 7 | Torque the housing bolts evenly and refill with the correct coolant |
| 8 | Run to temperature, check for leaks and confirm the gauge settles at normal |
