Product Overview
Thermostat for Volvo Penta marine engines, opening at 60 °C (140 °F) and supplied as 1 x thermostat. It replaces Volvo Penta 875796, 833366, 15796 and 829812, and crosses to Sierra 18-3665. The same 60 °C thermostat was used across the AQ and BB gasoline fours and the small MD diesels, which is why one part number covers so many engines. Volvo Penta specified a cool-opening thermostat on these raw water cooled blocks to keep thermal stress low and to stop salt scale baking onto the cylinder head; a hotter automotive thermostat is the usual cause of overheating and cracked heads on this family. A thermostat stuck open leaves the engine running cold, which shows as poor idle and heavy fuel use, while one stuck shut overheats the manifold within minutes of leaving the dock.

- Read the model plate before ordering, AQ, BB and MD engines all take this 60 °C thermostat but the housing gasket differs
- Gasket and housing are not included, this listing is the thermostat only
- Test the new thermostat in a pan of water with a thermometer, it should start to open at 60 °C
- Check the old one for a broken bridge or a pellet pushed out of its seat, both mean it has failed open
- Flush the raw water side before fitting, scale and old impeller pieces are what jam a fresh thermostat
