Product Overview

Water pump impeller for Johnson and Evinrude V4 and V6 outboards from 85 HP to 235 HP, a 6 blade impeller 89.66 mm outside diameter, 22.32 mm hub and 32 mm high. It replaces OMC 0389642, 389642, 777212 and 385528 and crosses to Sierra 18-3043.

This is the large cross flow impeller on the 1970s and 1980s V4 and V6 motors, the one that sits in a round stainless liner under the plate. Once the liner is grooved, a new impeller will not restore flow, so check the liner before ordering.

The fitment covers 85, 115, 135, 140, 150, 175, 200 and 235 HP motors built between 1973 and 1988. Many of these are still working as workboats and dive boats, where the impeller is changed on a season rather than on hours.

Fitting Notes

Step Action
1 Check the number on the old impeller, 0389642 and 777212 are the same body
2 Check the horsepower and year against the table, the 85 HP range is the widest
3 Drop the gearcase and check the liner and plate before fitting anything new
4 Find the drive key, a missing key leaves the impeller spinning on the shaft
5 Grease the liner and fold the blades in the running direction
6 Slide the impeller down square, never drive it with a hammer
7 Fit the plate, gaskets and housing, torque the bolts evenly
8 Run on muffs and watch the telltale before the boat goes in the water
