Water pump impeller for Mercury and Tohatsu outboards from 6 HP to 9.9 HP, 40 mm outside diameter with 6 blades, replacing Mercury 47-8037481 and Tohatsu 3B2-65021-1 and crossing to Sierra 18-8920. One impeller is supplied.
The dimensions are 40 mm outside, 12.1 mm bore and 18 mm deep, with 6 neoprene blades. That is the small pump used on the 209 cc Mercury four stroke and the Tohatsu MFS8 and MFS9.8, and the same impeller serves the two stroke 6, 8 and 9.8 HP motors of the same generation.
Mercury and Tohatsu share these motors, so the part crosses both ways: a Mercury branded 8 HP and a Tohatsu MFS8A take the same impeller. Serial number ranges matter on the Mercury side because the early production used a different pump housing, and the ranges are listed below.

Before You Buy
- Check the serial number against the Mercury ranges above, the early housing takes a different impeller
- Check the pump housing liner and wear plate for grooves while the impeller is out
- Check the drive key and the shaft for wear, a worn shaft lets the impeller slip
- Fit the blades bent in the direction of rotation and grease the housing before assembly
- Do not run the motor dry, a dry impeller destroys itself in under a minute
- Check the telltale stream at idle after the first start, and recheck after the first hour of running
