Product Overview
Water pump impeller kit for Mercury outboards from 30 HP to 70 HP, replacing 46-77516A3 and 46-77177A3 and crossing to Sierra 18-3322, 18-3323 and 18-3324. It is the complete pump rebuild, supplied with the upper housing, impeller, face plate, base, gaskets, seals, O-rings and key.
This is the full kit rather than an impeller in a bag, which is what these pumps need. On the 30 to 70 HP Mercury three and four cylinder motors the housing and the face plate are both wear items, and a new impeller dropped into a scored housing runs hot from the first trip.
It covers the 30 HP and 30 HP jet, 35, 40 in two and four cylinder form, 45, 50 in three and four cylinder form, 60, 65 and 70 HP. Because Mercury changed the pump body inside those horsepower ratings over the years, check the serial number range in the table rather than the cowl decal.

Before You Buy
- Check the serial number against the table, Mercury used more than one pump across 30 to 70 HP
- Match the old housing against 46-77822A1 before ordering, the earlier housing is a different casting
- Check the driveshaft splines while the housing is off, a dry spline will strip in the crank
- Note the shift shaft position before the gearcase drops and do not turn it once it is free
- Fit the key and check the impeller turns with the shaft before the housing goes back on
- Lubricate the impeller with glycerine and turn the shaft by hand to set the blade direction
- Check the telltale at idle and again at planing speed on the first run
