Product Overview

Water pump impeller kit for the Yamaha 150 to 250 HP two and four stroke outboards, supplied as 17 pieces in 10 lines. This is the part set that goes into the water pump at the top of the lower unit. The kit replaces Yamaha 61A-W0078-A4, 61A-W0078-A3 and 61A-W0078-A2, it crosses to Sierra 18-3395 and 18-3396, the impeller is 6E5-44352-00, and it covers 21 Yamaha models from 1997 to 2015 and later, listed in the two tables below.

This is the whole pump rather than the impeller on its own. The key, the gasket, both O-rings, the dowel pins, the bolts and the bolt washers are all parts that do not survive being taken apart, and buying them one at a time costs more than the kit.

The kit also carries the insert cup and the wear plate. Those two are the parts that wear with the impeller: the cup is the stainless liner the blades run against, and the plate closes the bottom of the pump. A kit without them is a job half done on an engine of this size.

The blades take a set when the engine sits. A boat that is used twice a season wears its impeller out from standing rather than from running, because the blades stay bent in one position and crack at the root.

The drive is through a key rather than a spline, and the key comes with the kit because a worn one lets a new impeller slip. That reads as a failed impeller when it is not.
