Water pump impeller kit for the Yamaha C40 40 HP two stroke outboard and the OMC Cobra 235 and 240 sterndrives, a 6 piece repair kit with the impeller, the drive key, three gaskets and the water seal. It replaces Yamaha 6F5-44352-00, 6F5-44352-A0, 679-W0078-00 and 679-W0078-A0, it fits the C40 from 1990 to 1997 and the Cobra 235 and 240 drives from 1971 to 1978, and one kit ships at 66 g with packaging.
This is a repair kit for the water pump rather than a bare impeller. On the C40 and on the Cobra drives the pump housing has to come off to reach the impeller, so the gaskets and the water seal that come off with it are in the box.
The impeller is the part that fails. It sits in the pump housing on the top of the gear case, it runs dry every time the engine is started on muffs and it takes a set if the boat sits for a season. Three years is the usual service life, less if the engine is run in shallow water or sand.
Yamaha used the same pump on the C40 throughout its run, which is why this kit crosses to the 676 and 679 numbers as well as the 6F5 one. If your engine is a C40 from any year between 1990 and 1997, this is the kit.
The OMC Cobra fitment is the reason the years matter. The 235 drive used this pump from 1971 and again from 1975 to 1977, and the 240 in 1978, so check the model and the year on the drive before ordering rather than the boat.
