Product Overview
Water pump impeller kit, a complete pump service part for the Johnson and Evinrude crossflow and looper V4 and V6 engines from 90HP to 300 HP built between 1979 and 2002. It replaces 5001594, 0395060, 0434421 and 0435447, and crosses to Sierra 18-3390 and 18-3392.
The kit contains the impeller 395864 / 397131 / 435821, the cup and plate assembly 435027, the housing 435959, the gasket, the key, the grommets, the O-rings and the bolts. That is the pump complete, which is the right way to do it on these engines: the stainless cup and the housing wear together, and a new impeller dropped into a grooved housing will not hold pressure at high speed.
It suits the 20 inch gearcases including the SPL models. The 3 and 4 HP entries in the fitment table use the same pump head on a small gearcase, and checking the model or serial number is the only reliable way to pick between this kit and the 0435929 kit used on the later engines.

Before You Buy
- Check the model and serial against the years above, the 90HP engine was built in several blocks and only some use this pump
- Confirm the gearcase is the 20 inch version including SPL, the 25 inch gearcase takes a different kit
- Compare the old housing with 435959, if the number differs this is the wrong kit
- Inspect the driveshaft splines and the gearcase seal while the pump is off, water in the gear oil usually starts here
- Lubricate the impeller with glycerine and turn the shaft clockwise as the housing goes down
- Run the engine on muffs and confirm a strong telltale before the boat goes in the water
