Water Pump Impeller Kit 5001594 for Johnson Evinrude 90-300 HP Outboard V4 V6 Sierra 18-3390 18-3392 — Australia Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Water pump impeller kit, a complete pump service part for the Johnson and Evinrude crossflow and looper V4 and V6 engines from 90HP to 300 HP built between 1979 and 2002, and the smaller motors listed in the fitment table. It replaces 5001594, 0395060, 0434421 and 0435447, crosses to Sierra 18-3390 and 18-3392, and comes complete with the impeller 395864 / 397131 / 435821, the cup and plate assembly 435027, the housing 435959, the gasket, the key, the grommets, the O-rings and the bolts. Held in our Australia local warehouse.
Buying the whole pump rather than the rubber alone is the right call on these engines. The stainless cup and the housing wear as a pair, so a new impeller dropped into a grooved housing will not hold pressure at high speed, which is exactly where a big two-stroke works hardest.
The kit suits the 20 inch gearcase including the SPL models. The 25 inch gearcase takes a different kit, and the only reliable way to choose between this one and the later 0435929 kit is the model or serial number.

Long Runs Offshore and Trolling
| What the Skipper Sees | Why It Happens | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature creeps up on a long run to the reef | Pump volume falls away with a worn cup | Fit the kit before the trip, not after |
| Telltale weak at trolling speed | Blades set, cannot seal at low rpm | New impeller and cup together |
| Motor hot after a day on the plane | Housing grooved, pressure lost at speed | New housing 435959 is in the kit |
| Sand or mud through the intake | Blade tips worn and cup scored | Flush, then inspect the pump |
| Gear oil milky after the trip | Gearcase seal and pump grommets | Renew the seals while the pump is off |
| Screws snapping on removal | Stainless into aluminium over years | Ten new bolts and screws are in the kit |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the model and serial against the years above, the 90HP engine was built in several blocks and only some use this pump |
| 2 | Confirm the gearcase is the 20 inch version including SPL, the 25 inch gearcase takes a different kit |
| 3 | Compare the old housing with 435959, if the number differs this is the wrong kit |
| 4 | Drain the gearcase and note the blade direction as the housing comes off |
| 5 | Inspect the driveshaft splines and the gearcase seal while the pump is off, water in the gear oil usually starts here |
| 6 | Lubricate the impeller with glycerine and turn the shaft clockwise as the housing goes down |
| 7 | Torque the bolts evenly in a cross pattern, a distorted housing will not hold pressure |
| 8 | Run the engine on muffs and confirm a strong telltale before the boat goes in the water |
