Water Pump Impeller Kit 0763758 for Johnson Evinrude 5.5 6 7.5 HP Outboard Motor Housing Cup Plate 382797 — United States Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Water pump kit, a complete repair part for Johnson and Evinrude 5.5 HP, 6 HP and 7.5 HP two-strokes built from 1954 to 1979, supplied as 8 components with a net weight of 220 g. It replaces 0763758, 0391391 and 382797, and it contains the impeller 0387361, the plastic housing 0323596, the cup 0324641, the plate 0323597, the grommet, the drive key and 4 bolts. Shipped from our United States local warehouse.
Most of these motors are now second or third hand, bought at a swap meet or pulled out of a garage after sitting for years. The first season is usually about getting the cooling system back to something like its original condition, and on this pump that means the housing and cup as well as the impeller.
The original plastic housing distorts and grooves over a few decades, and the bolts holding it are often corroded enough to snap. The kit supplies new bolts and a new housing so the pump goes back together flat and pulls the water it was designed to pull.

Bringing a Stored Motor Back
| What You Find First | What It Tells You | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Motor sat for years before you bought it | Rubber parts are the unknown | Fit the kit before the first season |
| Bolts corroded into the housing | They usually snap on removal | New bolts are in the kit |
| Housing distorted at the bolt holes | Old torque and old plastic | New housing goes on flat |
| Cup polished through | Blades were running on metal | New cup restores the face |
| Splines dry and bright | No grease since the last rebuild | Grease the splines before assembly |
| Pump together, still no telltale | Air pulled past a bad gasket or grommet | Both are in the kit, check the tube seat |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the model and serial, this kit suits the 5.5, 6 and 7.5 HP twins with the plastic pump housing |
| 2 | Compare the old impeller at 6 blades and the housing bolt pattern before fitting |
| 3 | Drain the gearcase and note the blade direction as the housing lifts off |
| 4 | Check the driveshaft splines and grease them, a dry spline strips the new impeller key |
| 5 | Clean the pump face and confirm it is flat before the new plate goes on |
| 6 | Lubricate the impeller with glycerine and turn the shaft clockwise as the housing goes down |
| 7 | Torque the 4 bolts evenly, uneven torque distorts the plastic housing and the pump will not prime |
| 8 | Run in a tank or on muffs and confirm a strong telltale before the boat goes in the water |
