Water Pump Impeller Kit 394711 with Housing for Johnson Evinrude 9.9 15 HP Outboard Sierra 18-3327 — United States Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Water pump impeller kit with housing, a complete repair part for Johnson and Evinrude 9.9 HP and 15 HP outboards, supplied as 10 components. The impeller measures 38.40 mm (1.51 in) outside diameter, 12.75 mm (0.50 in) at the hub, 6 blades, shipping weight 219 g in a 160 mm x 120 mm x 100 mm (6.3 x 4.7 x 3.9 in) box. It replaces 394711 and Sierra 18-3327, and crosses to 386697, 391698, 389112, 387610, 46-02855, GLM 12050 and 12251, WSM 750-290 and Mallory 9-48220. Shipped from our United States local warehouse.
The kit carries the housing, wear plate, cup, grommets, oil seal, O-rings, pin and four stainless bolts, because on this pump an impeller alone is often not the repair. The original liner scores as sand passes through, and a new impeller running in a scored liner will not draw at idle.
These are the 9.9 and 15 HP motors that have been on American lakes and rivers for fifty years. Most of them run at trolling speed for hours, which is exactly where a pump that has lost its clearance shows up first: the telltale weakens, the cylinder head gets hot, and nothing looks wrong from the outside.

| What You Find | Why the Impeller Alone Fails | What the Kit Fixes |
|---|---|---|
| Liner scored by sand | Blades cannot seal against the score | New housing restores the clearance |
| Cup polished through | Blades run on bare metal and wear fast | New cup fitted |
| Wear plate grooved | Pressure bleeds back past the plate | New plate in the kit |
| Old oil seal hardened | Gearcase draws air, pump cannot prime | New seal and O-rings |
| Grommet perished | Water escapes at the tube joint | Two new grommets |
| Bolts corroded | They snap in the housing on removal | Four stainless bolts supplied |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Confirm the engine is 9.9 or 15 HP, the 6 and 8 HP use a different pump |
| 2 | Check the old housing for a scored liner before deciding the kit is needed |
| 3 | Drain the gearcase and note the blade direction as the housing lifts off |
| 4 | Fit the new oil seal and O-rings, old ones harden and let the gearcase draw air |
| 5 | Check the driveshaft splines and the tube grommet seat |
| 6 | Grease the liner and turn the shaft by hand before closing the housing |
| 7 | Torque the four bolts evenly, a distorted housing will not prime |
| 8 | Run on muffs and confirm a strong telltale before launching |
