Product Overview
Water pump repair kit for OMC Stringer outdrives from 1962 to 1985, excluding Cobra models. It replaces OMC 983218, GLM 12190, Mallory 9-45286 and Sierra 18-3386, and it ships as one kit in a 150 mm x 140 mm x 100 mm box at 730 g.
The kit covers the whole pump, not only the rubber star. It carries the impeller 777130, the stainless face plate 313176, the pump housing 983298, the O rings and the drive key, which is what a Stringer pump needs after twenty or thirty years in the water.
Stringer drives are old enough that the housing is usually the worn part. A new impeller in a scored housing will pump well for a few weeks and then lose the tell tale again, so the housing belongs in the kit and it belongs on the drive at the same time as the impeller.
Fitment is every OMC Stringer outdrive from 1962 to 1985. The Cobra is not covered, and the difference matters: Cobra drives use a different pump and this kit will not fit them. OMC also listed the same pump under 0778061, 0981802 and 879031, and the OMC number appears on some catalogues with a leading zero as 0983218.
